Sentimentality Gone Too Far?

Woo. Sorry about the shortness of the rantage, but I just beat Breath of Fire IV, and boy, I'm glad I did. It ended the way it should have, but I still wanted more: hell, that's usually the case, and unsurprising when the story is as cool and involved as BOF4. I hear a Breath of Fire 5 is in the works, to which I say: YAY. But for now I'm just glad it's out of the way, so I can get the game back to its rightful owner and I can start on the second chapter of the honors project that I am currently more than a little behind on. Yeep ::sheepish look::
Anyhow. I got a wee bit of flack for the "drama" that happened in the last story-arc (of which this current one is kind of a mock), but simply put, I don't care. Well, not precisely. I do care, because that is the kind of person I am, but more precisely when it comes to the comic, I take suggestions well but also with a grain of salt and all things considered. There are those who'd prefer to see this comic as a series of funny one-shots, like the incomparable - and somewhat progenitor of this comic - Penny Arcade, to which I have to answer: sorry. I can't give you that. Simply speaking, my mind just doesn't work that way, and in order to have one-shots with no real continuity is something that requires humor that is keenly honed to strike true each time. I may not jab you perfectly each time, or take some time to wind up, but I think the collective humor punch at the end may end up as a bigger payoff.
Oy. Just realized how BIG of an issue this ties into. Ask PA's Tycho how much he hates continuity and Player Vs. Player's Scott Kurtz how much he digs it, and study closely the type of comic each has and how they make humor work for them. Gabe and Tycho make me laugh my ass off, and so do the PVP gang: just in rather different fashions. I'm more seriously invested in the cast of PVP because I know them more deeply as characters (this is not to say I'm not interested in the hijinks of T & G, just, like I said, in a different fashion). Continuity, I feel, is the method best suited to a comic with a larger cast - and even though we mostly just see Blue, followed by Celia and Derec, "I'm Blue" DOES take place in a cast - because it makes you give a shit about characters you don't quite see as often. You get to know more about characters as people, and Blue and her cohorts are rapidly becoming more and more real to me every day... it's subtle, but look how their templates have changed, what they say and do. I'm getting more and more into making new drawings for each comic, just to see how things have changed since last time. I hope you guys are eager to see each change too, but if you're just here for the funny, I don't blame you. This is your location for the bargain basement funny, after all. Good humor at good prices, and the whatnot.
I'm enjoying all this, even with all the craziness and the deadlines and the stuffness. I've gotten to know some nifty people through it - the occasional e-mail from Tycho and Chris Morrison (from Polymer City Chronicles - two really fantabulous guys by the way), and the real-life occasional what-up to the indefatigable Hot Soup (Lethal Doses) - that I likely wouldn't have gotten to know otherwise. Sure I'd like more readers (the desire of many webcomics), but I'm not torn up over it... I'm really grateful for you guys, and the fact that you think this corner of the 'net has something worthwhile. Thanks.
Anyhow, I said "short," and shit, look at me, I can't shut up. ::laugh:: Figures. Well, you guys enjoy, take care, and yeah. Drop me a line sometime, if you wanna. ::wink:: Word.
