That's What I Call Anger Management
September 19, 2003
Hey. Sorry about the weirdness lately, and the comics, and the stuffness... the case of a power outage, and me being lazy, and the like. And apology art is actually here - I dug through my pile of drawings recently and unexpectedly encountered some very early, practically stone-age drawings of Blue and her peeps - but it's not going to be posted until Tuesday. I know, I know, blame Web Guy Josiah for being lazy, but there will be a lot of said apology art, and it'll be worth the wait, honestly. But yeah. Hugs, kisses, making up and all that. So we'll just shake hands and continue on to business, shall we? Okie-day then.

Oh, by the way: check out a little comic called mekka blue, because it is funny, quality work, and I actually wrote a little bit of German in my e-mail to the guy (who actually lives in either Germany or Austria, forgive my bad memory), and he said it wasn't bad ::grins happily:: And he told me how to say "We're party animals!" in Dutch! How cool is that! Oh, and get this: his comic isn't in the Top Ten at Rocketbox. ::frowns:: Let's change that, okay? Vote for him one day and vote for me another, ja? [you can actually vote for both in the same day - web guy Josiah] And link to him and read his comic and yeah. The guy is cool, and hey, he deserves it ::smile:: Go forth!

In other N00Z: today is National Talk Like A Pirate Day - believe it or not - and courtesy of a friend of mine, here is a wee little English-To-Pirate Translator that will magically transform all your speech into arr-worthy yarns of pirate-y goodness. How can you say no? ::grins:: Thanks for, well, letting me steal that link from your livejournal, friendÂ… you know who you are ::wink:: Oh, arr, I be evil. Eeeevil.

Yes, friends, Final Fantasy X has consumed me and Josiah both. Now I know what you're thinking: "But Annie, that game came out forever ago!" And then I will hit you upside the noggin and say "But we only got our PS2 a few months ago, foo! Pay attention!" And so. Yay, that game. Only Yuna is such a frickin' milquetoast... and man... those screenshots from FFX-2... why they got to dress her like a skank?

You know, on that same theme, you think that more game companies would wise up to the fact that the biggest single percentage of their audience is made up of female gamers, and act accordingly. I've always had this thought at the back of my head - ever since forever, really, when I was treated for years as a total oddity, the mystical "female gamer, oooo" or just a plain freak no longer counted as female - but working on this past storyline, I suddenly encountered all these stories about the difficulties that female gamers are encountering in their attempts to get their voices heard. I wish I could link to the article on CNN that gave me that percentage, but eh, it was slashdotted, and by all accounts the goons over at CNN.com don't seem keen on putting it back up ::shakes head grumpily:: Eh, this article isn't as scientific, but it's got a good point. Oh, and gaming-industry-as-a-whole? Could you quit that whole making females either sexy and evil or vapid and good... you know, defy stereotypes a bit? And as much as I love the character of Lulu, her character design needs to pull up that furry ruff a good four inches or so, and leaning over as a victory pose, what the FUCK is that shit? Not only is it patently ridiculous, it's contradictory to her mostly-well-written character. Feh. Imagine - just for a moment - what Final Fantasy X would be like if the genders of the characters were all reversed. THINK about that! Auron and Wakka! Tidus and Seymour! No more wangs for them! And Yuna and Lulu and Rikku - all GUYS! Imagine it! I dare you! Go on! And ask yourself: what would that do for gaming - especially with the introduction of an older female character in the switch-Auron - and how crazy that would be! The defiance of stereotypes! WOO!

::sighs deeply:: Just, if anyone up there in the gaming industry is listening to me ever, listen to me now. No more Lara Crofts, please Jeebus no, I hate that bitch. Give us more Samus Arans... MORE SAMUS ARANS, GODDAMMIT! Don't make me use the bold type on you!

Oh, but anyhow. You want a good website for women in gaming, and just plain gaming, and stuff, and the like, go to Game Girl Advance and soak up the Good. Also stop by insert credit because I love their stuff, and I am a crazy human being. Something about those guys just makes me want to be their friend, however creepy that might sound. Yeah. That does some creepy. ::pause:: Okay, moving on!

Well, actually, I should call it quits for tonight: the parents are visiting this weekend, and both Web Guy Josiah and I have much to do before they arrive... and I've been at this rant for too dammed long. Apology art is coming soon, honest, but for right now all you get is my personal apology... and a comic, of course, which you should read henceforth. Be well, folks, because that's a good thing.
