I Think That Means No
February 27, 2004
Bitching comes first in this rant, tonight. Just a warning. Mighty bitchness powers, ATTACK!

Just remember, when reading the comic, that Blue speaks for Blue. It's what would happen if she - not any female - started playing the game, and liked it. I think I'm done talking about this game, and that although certain elements of it - like the job system, the real time, and the fuckload of minigames - might be marginally interesting, I think what happened is that Square had a real golden opportunity to make a beautiful sequel, and they fucked it in the ass, essentially. Seriously. Blah blah blah interesting dress-sphere system maybe, but seriously, it's a Sailor Moon cheesecake stroke game for thirteen-year-olds they made, and not a faithful continuation. There's the germ in there - in the painful script I read - of something really remarkable, the reasonable result of happenings in a world finally freed from the grip of a terror it had dealt with for a thousand years: but it was lost under so much crap it made me even sadder. But yeah. That's my story and I'm stickin' to it. If you want to argue, try to change my mind, by all means mail me, but bear in mind that Final Fantasy X was my first formal introduction to a series I'd only seen others play at random times before, and plus I'm trying to get this behemoth known as the Gaming Industry to edge away from their overtly sexist ways (ooo, revolutionary me!), and as such the game seems like a double-fuck, and you'll have to fight me on both fronts. It's nothing personal against any people who like this game: you've got your reasons for liking, and I certainly have mine for not liking it. "And that, as they say, is that." Heh. Maechen. You know that in German, "Mädchen" means "girl"? That name and the German word's similarities always made me laugh. This is because I am lame. But yeah. End bitch-a-tudiness.

Hm. Other elements of life. As I mentioned in rants previous, I'm starting to read new comics - my "Webcomics I read" count has neared 40 - and thus the list on the right bears changing. I've been putting this off for a dog's age, mostly because I've got a site change I've been working on for FOREVER, and been way too lazy to put together. So it comes to this: I've either got to change the list on the right with the understanding that I've got to change it again soon enough, or hurry my ass up and get the new site design underway. I prefer the latter, and hope I won't just be a lazy ass and do the former. Although... well, Web Guy Josiah's been mighty busy lately, and said business doesn't show any signs of stopping, so mayhap the former will have to stand. And here's further hoping that I won't be UTTERLY lazy and not change the thing at ALL. Here's hoping!

Ah, now the treat for those of you who bother to read my rant - I know it's not everyone, and I cherish greatly you who read this! - a little story, and a sweet, beautiful gift. Back on my birthday - December 16, in case anyone wants to mark their calendars (which should be an "I'm Blue" 2004 wall calendar) - I received an e-mail from a very nice Canadian gentleman named Alex, who had joined the readership of this modest little rag courtesy of the linkage from Stubble (that I will owe Josh Mirman gratitude for until the day I die). As it happened, not only do we share the same birth day, but birth YEAR: and in honor of this connection, he suggested an art trade between the two of us (which is essentially, as I have understood it in the past, an "I draw something of yours, and you draw something of mine" kind of dilly-o). I was like "wow, okay sure! I'll just look at the link to your art page right here and AAAAAOOOOOOOOOOH MY GOD." ::audible sound of jaw hitting floor:: So yeah. Alex is, needless to say, one fucking AMAZING artist, and although I still cannot figure out for the life of me why he wanted to do an art trade with MY hack self, hell, I'm not going to question it! My little scribbling for him - a "remix" of his gorgeous "Feline" work - can be found here.

And what, you may ask, has Alex come up with for me? Ye GODS. It is but part one of apparently three that I present for you (and I do hope that he is not irked that I finally broke down and could not resist posting it early), a "knock down drag out mac vs. Windows" fight between Blue and Max. It's so amazing that I can't help but compare it to Penny Arcade's own chronicle of the Cardboard Tube Samurai, Cardboard and Steel... seriously. But enough gabbing: here it is. Aren't you just fucking AMAZED at how good it is?! If not, I should have you destroyed, because I'm still in awe, goddammit. Don't you want to know what happens next?! AGH! We must wait... more as it comes to me. Woo! ::does very happy dance::

Anyhow. That's likely it for me tonight: miles to go before I sleep and all that. Well, not really. But I'm kinda through with interesting things so say, so I'm... gonna... just... go... now. Yeah. Be well. ::awkwardly shuffles out the door::

A quick shout-out to my older brother Jonah. He turns 25 today. Happy Birthday Jonah. I'm sorry I can't be in MN to celebrate it with you, but I hope that you find something fun to do. Annie and I send our best wishes to you,
- web guy Josiah
