Yeah, Don't Do This

Far be it for me to dictate policy to parents when it comes to kids, but seriously: don't poke holes in their ears before the poor buggers can walk. Does little Poopy really need a diamond stud poked into her ear to make her pretty? Of course not. It's more a danger than anything else. Now, I'm not one to say that body mods of any kind are bad - sheeeit, Blue herself has several ear piercings, and so does Celia, and I have two holes in each ear myself, and for crying out loud Web Guy Josiah has his ears pierced too - just that one really should be able to make choices about it. And it's not that it doesn't leave a scar, because it actually does: when I was seven, I begged to get my ears pierced - only to have the right one get infected to the point where just touching the ear made it hurt. I let it grow over, and to this day I can feel the little niblet of scar tissue in my right earlobe (yes, that's gross, I know, but I'm making a point). I made the choice when I was 16 (and later 17) to get my ears pierced again, but I knew what I was getting into. Also Josiah tells me that if you get your ears pierced with that little piercing-gun-thing it can cause nerve damage, and stuff, and yeah. I'm not too jazzed about that idea, and see, THIS is why Annie is not gonna get any more piercings and god forbid any tattoos: I am a giant wuss. So, in conclusion: I am of the opinion that it is a very bad idea to pierce the ears of little babies. Not so good. One could bring in the debate of "oh does this mean we shouldn't circumcise baby boys" and that comes down to 1) religious preference (and I suppose this could also apply with the ear-piercing thing, but... yeah, by and large, I believe that's not the case), and 2) medical preference. It's got a definite up and downside, that whole... thing. And also, I don't talk about it because I lack wang - thus I steer clear of that debate! See how easy it is! And oh, look over there! A nice shiny change of topic! How about that!
Guess who just added three brand-new designs to their Cafepress store? If you guessed me, you're right! And if you guessed someone else... I guess... you could conceivably also be right, but not very good at taking hints! And stuff. But you will all be able to see that before too long - when I FINALLY unveil the new site design. Slowly but surely it is getting hacked-out, and ideally when it is all done it will be nice and shiny enough to make up for all the yabbering I've done about it up until now. Heh. Oopsie.
