Should I Let the Air Groupies In Now?
March 10, 2006
Heh. Funny that although I do not yet own Guitar Hero (although I do crave it mightily), I must respect (as YOU must, as EVERYONE must) its power over people, in our pure and powerful desire - however carefully hidden - to ROCK. The title, actually, comes from a line in an old Bloom County in which Opus the Penguin has some of the best air guitar moves ever captured in art - spinning and leaping and spitting and yelling and somersaulting - and holy crap, even at age eight I understood that impulse perfectly. It was something I wasn't afraid to do then, to lunge around and sing loudly to music. Who the hell was going to give me crap about it? I was eight. But you get older and try to pretend you're cooler - but that desire to ROCK? No, bucky, by and large that doesn't go away. And from all reports, Guitar Hero is a bit of being able to realize it... one of the developers actually said once that people sometimes don't do as well on a song as they should because they are spending so much time trying to LOOK COOL. I hear that. And although you might have expected to see Blue out there with that guitar controller - I had to show that Celia, too, has the ROCK in her soul. For reals.

But enough of my pontificating upon Humankind's common desire to Rock Out - I have some LINKSTRAVAGANZA goodness for you!

* Lemon Demon is a good band, and very funny. You may remember them from the video I linked last time, "Ultimate Showdown of Ultimate Destiny," and they remain awesome. Download their stuff, listen, and enjoy.

* I may talk shit on fanart sometimes, but hey - I did admit there is stuff out there that makes my jaw drop in awe, because it is SO DAMN GOOD. This woman here - Ms. Jessica Plummer - is FUCKING AMAZING. Seriously. Look at her drawings of Jayne and Mal and Zoe from Firefly (not to mention the suite of chibi drawings she did of the cast!). And my god, BABY MONSTERS. I love the hell out of that drawing. I am in awe of this lady's work. HO-LEE SHIT. ::bows in respect::

* Finally, whether or not you've played Half-Life 2, you should appreciate the hilarious crazy humor of Concerned: The Half-Life and Death of Gordon Frohman. It is a webcomic of hilariousness. Also some serious technical mastery goin' on there, too. But holy CRAP, it's funny. If you've played HL2 you might just DIE from the funny. But it will be worth it.

Well, that's all the hilarious bounty I have for you folks tonight - come back on Tuesday for another round (if you can hold your humor, that is). It's on the house.

Sorry the comic is being updated Friday afternoon, we forgot Thursday night, then I updated it on my hard drive on Friday morning, but forgot to upload it. It's all my fault.
