Worth a Thousand Words
June 20, 2006
Well, they say to write what you know, and man, I been gettin' to know Brain Age pretty damn well. For those of you unfamiliar with this particular piece of software, it is not so much a "game" as it is a collected group of mini-exercises you do to attempt to determine your "brain age" - which is ideally 20 (who knows why this is, I was an idiot when I was 20, and material here on this very site will speak to this conclusion) - and basically train you to be a bit quicker on the uptake, ideally. This conversation is based on actual events - I do my morning "brain exercises" as Josiah kindly drives me to work - and is actually close to verbatim, especially my mockery. As I'm sure you all can tell acutely by now, I love my DS Lite, but it's a crappy input for drawing even under the best of circumstances, and future artistic efforts (especially based on the commute to my place of employment and the less-than-smooth ride that can result) have had their playing field evened somewhat, but the comparison of player drawings that the game rather bluntly puts side-by-side is always amusing to me. I understand it's all to the good, in the mind of the creators, but come on: can one not conceive how this little feature might not go so well? Web Guy Josiah and I love each other deeply and truly, but this doesn't stop us from teasing each other with ruthless efficency. Can you imagine siblings playing this? Ah, if they had Brain Age when I was a lass...

Older Brother: Gimme the DS, I wanna play Mario.
Me: Ha ha! Look how much better my drawing is than yours!
Older Brother: Whatever, give it!
::punch::
::DS grab::
Me: MOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOM!

...yeah, that's probably how it would have gone down. Although it should be noted that my brother is now a really nice guy who is very cool and easy going, despite his tendency to punch my frail little arms when we were little. Let it be noted that Things Are Cool Now. But yeah, videogames. Wheee!

That's enough from me for the nonce, though: rest assured you will be hearing more in the future, especially along the lines of please oh please send me your guest comics please that would be super great even just guest art would be cool PLEEEEEEEEEEEZE. Something like that.
