Slipped My Mind
October 10, 2006
I feel compelled to warn you all that the following is me waxing poetic. If you dislike this possibilty, skip on forward to the links - some good stuff in there today.

That warning given: I think it is a fact of the gaming industry that we sort of forget that there are PEOPLE behind the games we play - it doesn't have the same kind of individual "face time" of other mediums, where creators are right in the forefront in painting and writing and even films. Of course we have our big names - but as a whole they're such a collaborative effort that sometimes one just forgets the details of it. Hell, I work in this industry, and it slips my mind sometimes. We're a far cry from the first days of gaming, the game as a pure product, and the first Easter Egg in Adventure - but all the same I think we take these things for granted. We read those forums, those reviews, those Wikipedia articles - and although I know there's got to be some point where it stops being scary and starts being more routine, MAN... I am but a n00blet at this. When I first saw our trailer on Cinematech, I grabbed Web Guy Josiah's shoulder in a combination of uncontrollable joy and a bit of panic - it was different seeing it there than at work. It was suddenly so much more real to me, and I realized that yes, people were paying ATTENTION... which, while exciting and wonderful, also makes me freak out a little with that same kind of "what if I fuck up" fear I've had since forever. It could just be me being my usual spaz self, but all the same: something tells me I'm not alone.

Your eyes are on us, we know. But we're people, watching back. We hope you like the game we made for you. ('cause we think it is fucking awesome). The end!

Anyhow - two quick links before I go, of delicious videogamey goodness:

* This must have been the best talent show EVER. Why? Because of monkeys? Well, no (or maybe they did, but they could not have eclipsed this) - because of the Halo theme. Watch it. And keep your eye on the violin player - she's a feisty one!

* The Five Best Commercials Inspired by Video Games: Multiple videos here, and a good article encircling them like the delicious candy shell around the chocolate center of a Tootsie Roll pop. Mmmm, candy. And videogames. Delicioussssssss.

Well cats - I'm out for the night. Enjoy your Tuesday funny, and I'll see you all on Friday with an actual (GASP!) story arc. SACRE BLEU! Or something! Come and see, it'll be awesome.

Chock Full of Vengeance,
Annie "Blue" C

And he's on the next flight, moon bound
- Danger Doom
