The Lost Blues - Bench Strips
August 21, 2007
In honor of the Penny Arcade Expo (at which I shall be later on this week, helping to show off the very awesome expansion to the fucking awesome game I helped make), I present to you the following comics, which actually make me cringe with shame. Penny Arcade was the very first webcomic I ever read, which got me hooked on webcomics to begin with, and with the devotion of a newbie fan I crafted (lovingly and without skill) these pair of comics for their "open-source" comic archive "The Bench" (although I can tell the maintainer of that linked page that The Bench existed whilst I was in EARLY college, making it late 1999 starting date, not early 2003, FYI). Here is Annie in her early, rabid fandom, combining characters in the kind of hellish combo shout-out that too often are one-way affairs... there was a time where every up-and-coming (or those who wished to be so) webcomic would drop in at least one well-known webcomic character to a panel here and there - a kind of "hey guys! Maybe if I drop your character in my comic, it'll... make me awesome? Or make you link me? ...Please?" Now, I'll well admit I once courted plans to do this. Tycho even shows up very VERY sidelong in the background of an early strip here - and then I realized that it kind of made me into a tool, and my fandomness was only making me look more the doofus, so I have resolved never to do this since. Like the other strips I've posted in the past week - lesson LEARNED. Collaborations are tasty, fun things, and shout-outs to colleagues are rad, but shameless name-dropping... methinks it wise to avoid. Anywhoo.

(...Although my great enjoyment of Penny Arcade has hardly ceased, I must mention, although I think that probably is pretty bloomin' evident to you all, I'd wager, wot wot)

Alas, it's time for Annie to go sleepies - but I will leave you with a story about a blimp, apologies for Friday's strip going AWOL (another downside of leaving of Thursday, and an unfortunate hiatus), and a tentative promise for sketchies when I get back. Remember to lock the doors, there's Lunchables in the fridge and Otter Pops in the freezer (only one each, remember!), and NO jumping on the bed upstairs. You kids be good and I'll be back on Tuesday, okay? Byeeeeeeeeeeee!

Rofflekoptur lollerscatez,
Annie "Blue" C

if you did the things you like
- Franz Ferdinand
"The Dark of the Matinee"

Now, Annie doesn't have anything for Friday, but if you are really nice, I may just post my bench submission from the fall of 1999.
